Tracey Hanson-Parry graduated from the Graphic Design program at Durham College after having received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and English Literature from Queen's University.
She gathered experience in the design field through employment at some of Toronto's most prominent design studios and a freelance partnership. Her work in the industry has allowed her to experience all ranges and areas of print design including corporate, advertising, packaging and editorial. As an extension of her core skill set, Hanson-Parry also has experience with set design, exhibition design, and interior design.
She has worked for a wide variety of clients including photographers, artists, entrepreneurs, publishers, non-profit organizations, industrial designers, and retail establishments, as well as cultural and professional institutions. A few select clients include the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Advertising and Design Club of Canada, and Lindt Chocolatiers. Her work has earned her a number of awards, most notably a gold medal from the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada's Graphex design competition and two silver medals from the Advertising and Design Club of Canada.
Once established within the design industry, Hanson-Parry returned to school to complete a Bachelor of Education degree, with a specialization in Art Education, at the University of Western Ontario. She then returned to her career in the graphic design industry. In 2001, a teaching position in the Graphic Design program offered a perfect marriage of her interests in art/design and teaching.
Though she loves all parts and pieces of design, Hanson-Parry says she has a distinct passion for typography, as a creative and communicative tool. This has earned her the label of type geek, which, of course, she wears proudly.
